Media Management Internship

POSITION: Internship or Volunteer position (unpaid, college credit available)

DATES: mid-January to June 2012 (shorter or longer terms available)

COMMITMENT: minimum 10-20 hours per week

JOB DESCRIPTION: The San Diego Asian Film Foundation is seeking students or recent graduates with backgrounds in Film Studies, Digital Video Studies, or IT/Computer Studies to work with the Managing Director and the Artistic Director in Media Management of the San Diego Asian Film Foundation. Candidates will work with the Managing Director in maintaining standards of operation for media management, process digital content, convert DVD content to digital content, network maintenance, computer resource management, and content collection.

These are unpaid positions. Scheduling is flexible, but maintaining some hours between Mon-Fri during daytime business hours is a must. The position is best suited for someone who holds a strong interest in Film Studies, Digital and Film Media, Cinema Exhibition, Asian and Asian American culture, and possesses very strong communication skills.

BENEFITS: This position offers a unique opportunity to experience and participate with a growing media arts organization that serves its community through exciting film and cultural events. Interns also receive hands-on experience working with nonprofit management in an arts organization, as well as exposure to the Asian American arts community. Interns will also receive free access to exclusive film events and the annual film festival. This can also be a great networking opportunity and valuable experience for those aspiring to participate in the film and film festival industry, and/or nonprofit work.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: An ideal candidate would possess the following skills and traits:

  • Holds a strong interest in Film Studies
  • Excellent communications and writing skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, Google Docs
  • Proficiency in Media Management Software and nonlinear editing experience a plus
  • Will be in San Diego through June 2012
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail

  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to work as a part of a larger team
  • Holds an interest in Asian and Asian American Culture
