FESTIVAL AWARD JURY 2009

Festival Award Jurors judge the best films entered into competition and choose the top film in each category along with a Grand Jury Award winner.

Quan Phung

Quan Phung is the Head of Television for Scott Stuber Productions, a film and television production company based in Los Angeles. He is charged with building a television arm for a company that has produced such acclaimed features such as The Break Up, The Kingdom and most recently Role Models.

Prior to this, he was Senior Vice President, Creative Affairs, Comedy for Twentieth Century Fox Television (TCFTV). While at the studio, he managed an annual budget of $50 million dollars, and oversaw a staff that works with writers, producers, directors, agents and managers to develop and produce primetime comedy series for the broadcast networks. While at TCFTV, he developed the Emmy-award winning series My Name Is Earl on NBC and How I Met Your Mother on CBS, and he served on News Corporation's Diversity Council.

Before switching to the studio side, he spent five years at FOX Broadcasting Company, where he was promoted to Vice President in both the primetime comedy and drama development departments. While at FOX, he was part of the creative team that developed the Emmy-award winning series Arrested Development, The Bernie Mac Show and House, M.D. In 2002, he was recognized by the Hollywood Reporter in their annual "Next Generation" issue as one of the top 35 executives under 35.

Eric Pierson

Eric Pierson is an Associate Professor and Department Chair of the Communication Studies Department at the University of San Diego. His research interests include; media literacy, film culture, information policy, and issues of race, class, and gender in mass media. He was an editor and contributor to the inaugural issue of Screening Noir: Journal of Black Film, Television, and New Media Culture.

Currently, he is working on a book project with the working title "Blaxploitation: Hollywood's Cash Cow Revisited and Reframed," which focuses on the political, economic, and social climate that contributed to the manufacturing and maintenance of Blaxploitation films. Dr. Eric Pierson received his Ph.D. from the Institute of Communication Research at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (2000).

Win-Sie Tow

Native New Yorker Win-Sie Tow previously worked in Publications for the IFP Market and Tribeca Film Festival before focusing on documentaries as associate producer for A Jihad for Love and assistant on The Visitors. She has since participated as a jury member for the IDA Documentary Awards, LA Asian Pacific Film Festival, and CAAM Media Fund. A Northwestern alum and now resident Angeleno, Win-Sie works at the Sundance Institute as Coordinator for the Documentary Film Program.
